Four teams have already qualified for the next FIFA Club World Cup before the 2025 final has even taken place. Paris Saint-Germain will take on Chelsea on Sunday to become the first champions in the new format of the competition.

While it used to be the case that the old version of the tournament would take place annually at the end of the calendar year, the revamped edition is being treated in the same fashion as other major international contests such as the World Cup and Euros and will now take place every four years. Yet, despite the fact the competition won’t be returning until 2029, four teams have already staked their place.

Despite the fact that there is plenty of time to go before fans even think about consuming yet another summer of club football, four sides can already book their flights whenever a host is announced for 2029, with PSG being one of those. The Ligue 1 giants have already secured their place in the competition thanks to their 2025 Champions League victory against Inter Milan.
Along with the Parisians, Mexican side Cruz Azul are also guaranteed a spot thanks to their 2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup triumph, with Egyptian club Pyramids and Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ahli also securing their places by winning the CAF Champions League and the AFC Champions League Elite, respectively.
A team from the host country will also be given a slot, but there is no word on where the 2029 tournament will take place as of yet.
How Teams Qualify For the Club World Cup
32 teams compete in the tournament.
The 2029 FIFA Club World Cup will feature 32 teams and follow a global allocation system. UEFA will have the largest share with 12 slots – four going to Champions League winners from the 2024/25 to 2027/28 seasons, and the remaining eight awarded to the top-ranked eligible clubs based on a four-year UEFA ranking. Paris Saint-Germain have already secured their place through last season’s victory.
CONMEBOL will receive six slots, including four Copa Libertadores champions and two additional teams determined by continental rankings. CONCACAF will be represented by four Champions Cup winners, with Cruz Azul already qualified. CAF will also send four teams, made up of the next four CAF Champions League winners – Pyramids FC among them. Asia’s AFC gets four spots, all for Champions League winners, with Al-Ahli confirmed. Oceania will contribute one team, selected based on OFC Champions League performance over four years. The host nation will claim the final slot.
